Potential starts paying a visit

THE potential future stars of world football will be on show in Olula del Rio.

Local club Comarca de Marmol host the First Marmol Cup Football 7 tournament  at the Jose Juan Rodriguez stadium this weekend.

Teams from the province will have the opportunity to tackle UD Almeria, Real Betis, Valencia and Villareal in an age group of 10 to 12 years.

Sixteen teams will be split into groups of four over the two day event which takes place on Saturday all day and Sunday from 10 am to 2pm and will be attended by Hector Berenguel the former Sevilla, Deportivo and Mallorca defender who has joined the Comarca de Marmol Club.

Councillor for Sports and one of the organisers of the event, Mario Gonzalez Galera, said: “Grass roots sport, in this case football, is very important in the formation of our children, to convey values that transcend the sport, and that’s one of the reasons for this initiative.

“For our club, it is ideal for children as they grow, to remain attached to the club.” This is the proposal of the Council, in collaboration with the Comarca de Marmol club and also has the support of the company Cosentino, which is also involved in sports development of youngsters in the area.

Volunteers are needed to lend a hand. Those interested can contact the local council or the secretary of the club.
