ALMOST 3.9 million journeys will be made on the Spanish roads this weekend.
The Spanish General Traffic Department (DGT) estimates that between today and Sunday, 3.9 million journeys will be made by people who are ending their holidays, starting them or are just spending a weekend away.
More than 10,000 Guardia Civil from the traffic department will be on the roads to control traffic and attempt to ensure that everyone returns home to tell their loved ones about their holidays.
Heavy traffic is expected on the exit roads from major cities and roads linking to main coastal destinations this afternoon and evening, as well as tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
The heaviest traffic is expected on Sunday between 4pm and midnight.
The DGT has insisted about the importance of respecting speed limits, and not consuming drugs or alcohol.
A free App has been made available online by the DGT for smartphones, which inform drivers of any problems they may find on their way.
