Kenneth Wright, 82, who fled the UK after being sentenced for the sexual abuse of his granddaughter, has been arrested in Calahonda, Mijas.
National Police acted upon an arrest warrant issued by the UK authorities after he violated the conditions of his bail.
Wright, from Holton-le-Clay, Lincolnshire, was convicted in March of two charges for abusing his granddaughter between the ages of nine and 16. He gave police a false identity when located.
Wright is expected to be sent back to Britain to begin an eight-year prison sentence after an extradition hearing at a court in Madrid.
