Online tourism boost for Valencia region

TORREVIEJA: Saw a rise in the number of online searches compared to last year.

ALICANTE is amongst the most sought after destinations by users of hotel search engine Hoteles.com. The website reports that Torrevieja, Vall de Laguart and Javea are amongst the destina-tions which have registered the largest increase in the number of searches in July this year, compared to the same month last year. 

Torrevieja saw a rise of 168 per cent in the number of searches, compared to July last year, amongst Spanish tourists looking for a place to spend their holidays in August, while Vall de Laguart increased 140 per cent and Javea, 81 per cent. 

Meanwhile, the tourism sector continues to provide the most employment for the Valencia region and the number of people employed in the sector in July this year was 2.4 per cent higher than the same month last year. 

These figures were beaten only in the Balearic and Canary Islands, according to the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism. 

To further confirm how important tourism is  to  the  Valencia region, the Ministry reports that 2.6 million passengers arrived in the region on low-cost flights in July, which is 8.1 per cent more than were registered in July 2012.
