BUILDING started on only 988 new properties in Alicante province this year.
By the end of 2013 this is expected to have reached 1,802 but is still a far cry from the 52,700 units begun in 2003 and 2004.
The Orihuela area, together with Torrevieja, Rojales and Pilar de la Horadada accounted for just half of the province’s construction projects.
Elsewhere in the province, no buildings at all will be begun this year in San Juan, Jijona, Aspe, Monforte or Onil.
Inland Alcoy and Elda are doing little slightly better with just one building while Altea had an extremely modest six and Denia five.
