Spain have reached the quarter finals of water polo in the FINA World Championships for the first time in history and that was after seeing off the hot favourite to win.
In Barcelona, Spain saw off the USA 9-6 in what is seen as a memorable quarter-final at the Bernat Picornell Pool. After Spain lost against them in the Olympics final in London 2012, it was almost like revenge had gotten its way. Spain’s next rival will be Hungary.
Spain, who are obviously playing on home turf, “came out to fight” said goalkeeper Laura Ester. They were looking forward to this match and they will be looking forward to the semi-finals as Spain has already beaten Hungary in the Olympic 2012 semi-final.
