Primark comes to town
RETAIL giant Primark is to open a store in the Gran Plaza shopping centre in Roquetas de Mar.
The low cost clothes and accessories retailer is to take over a unit of more than 4000 square metres, which was previously the Marin Rosa store.
Primark is set to open in October and will employ more than 100 people. Work has already started on the refurbishment of the unit and job interviews will commence shortly.
Councillor Eloisa Cabrera has said that this will breathe new life into the shopping centre and the town of Roquetas de Mar and that all the work and opening licences are in place.
The sub director of the Gran Plaza Centre has also welcomed the giant textile group that could revolutionise the shopping centre and will be the only store in the province of Almeria.
Director Añade Verdu said: “We have been negotiating for several years the arrival of a Primark store and at last we have achieved it. There is a possibility that it will create up to 200 jobs.”
The arrival of Primark has created an air of expectation in the area bearing in mind the low cost retailer has many loyal customers and the nearest stores are in Malaga and Murcia.
Primark has also taken up space in neighbouring units to increase the overall size of the floor space.
The store specialises in the sale of clothes and accessories at a low price and the business continues to grow in Spain with an increase of 17 per cent in sales and new openings.Primark will complement other businesses such as Leroy Merlin and Toys r Us.
