Spain’s Blue-Flag beaches are the best in Europe!

SPAIN has the best beaches in Europe. And that’s official! The nation has more than 550 beaches that at present have Blue Flags of recognition as part of the European Environmental Foundation (EEF) Flag Programme.

Blue Flags identify beaches with first-class facilities and cleanliness, along with safety and high water quality. Checks are carried out throughout the main tourist seasons.

In total 3,850 beaches and marinas across the whole of Europe as well as in South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada and the Caribbean have been awarded with Blue Flags in the Programme.

Of the total Blue Flags in Spain, Galicia Province has the most with 127, followed by Valencia. The Costa Blanca, Almeria and Costa del Sol all boast Blue-Flag beaches, and the ever-popular resort island of Mallorca wades in with more than 40!

With such beaches, it’s no wonder TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards 2013 rates Mallorca, the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca in the top 10 Spanish destinations.

Meanwhile, in Denmark, 242 beaches  have Blue Flags, there are 70 in Ireland, England boasts 55, while Germany has 42, Wales 33, Norway 10, and Scotland and Sweden three each.

Russia has no Blue Flags.
