Chips are down for Mijas poker school

LOCAL POLICE raided a bar in Mijas, in which an illegal poker game was allegedly being played by 11 people. The plain clothes officers entered ‘The Hut’ on El Chaparral Urbanisation, which, police say, did not have an opening license. They had suspected for several weeks that illegal poker games were being held in the bar and observed proof of this through a window.

Nine of the players were Britons, one Spaniard and a Chinese citizen. Police claim the person in charge of the bar at the time, aged 18, had a US passport and claimed to be the owner’s brother. He claimed that the players were not playing for money but for a bottle of whisky, said police.

However, the police seized poker chips and cards, and banned the use of two tables.
