Top award for Teulada building

PRIZE WINNER: Teulada’s auditorium, designed by Francisco Mangado

TEULADA-MORAIRA’s auditorium has won Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) recognition. The auditorium, designed by Navarra architect Francisco Mangado, won a RIBA award for a building created outside the UK but within the EU.

The auditorium is one of nine EU projects selected for the award which include David Chipperfield’s MBA Building-HEC Campus (Paris), the Pierresvives by Zaha HDID Architects (Montpellier) and the Soro Art Museum (Denmark) by Lundgaard and Tranberg.

The nine EU buildings and 43 in the UK will now compete for the Stirling Prize for the Best Building of the Year. The winner will be announced when the RIBA awards are presented in October.

Residents and visitors of all nationalities attended performances and functions at the Auditorium each year, said Teulada mayor Antoni Joan Bertomeu.

The RIBA award was recognition for the town’s investment in culture as a tourist draw, he added.
