MALAGA METRO: Still unfinished.
PUBLIC bodies are still talking about ways to finish the Malaga Metro, but prospective customers will have to keep on walking for a while. Running the Malaga Metro underground from the Guadalmedina River to Plaza de la Marina would cost €110 million the Department of Public Works announced.
Doing so would be a temporary step until enough money is available to take the train as far as La Malagueta, as planned, although the local council and the Junta de Andalucia are still at odds about whether to do it above or below ground.
Taking the metro as far as La Malagueta would cost €200 million, and take about 46 months. Going as far as Plaza de la Marina only would only reduce the time span by five or six months.
This contrasts with the plans of the Junta de Andalucia to take the metro above ground through the Alameda and Paseo del Parque as far as La Malagueta, which would cost €41 million and take 18 months.
The aim is to make a decision for the project by September, but so far, the plans are no further ahead than they were at the beginning of the year.
