5 arrested at police controls

DRUGS FOUND: Busy day for police at traffic checkpoints around Velez.

FIVE people have been arrested following a series of police checkpoints. Patrols were stationed at different access points along the A-92 in Velez carrying out security measures and working against driving offences and the trafficking of drugs.

The first to be arrested was a driver, aged 37, who had lost all the points on his licence. In a second operation, carried out moments later, police arrested three people, aged 26, 25 and 24 on suspicion of crimes against public health as 16 bags of marihuana were found in the boot of their car ready for distribution and sale, along with around €955 in cash.

Later, a driver, seeing the police checkpoint ahead allegedly threw a bag out of the car window, an action which was spotted by police and led to the arrest of the driver as it contained six packets of hashish.
