Seat launch Leon SC as market share grows

NEW LOOK: Mikel Palomera SEAT Spain Managing Director presented the new Leon SC.

SPANISH manufacturer SEAT launched its new look Leon SC at the Barcelona International Motor Show. The new three-door version of the compact Spanish model is scheduled to make its way into the showrooms towards the end of this month. Prices will start from €14,490 for the three door 1.2 litre petrol version.

On the first press day at the Barcelona show, SEAT Spain Director Mikel Palomera said: “SEAT has nearly completely renewed its entire product lineup over the last  year and a half, and this product offensive is paying off in our country as well as in international markets.

“In Spain, not only was SEAT the market leader in sales last April, but we continue to maintain our leading position in year-to-date sales, too. So far this year, SEAT sales have grown by almost 13 per cent, giving us a 9.5 per cent market share, which is a point and a half better than last year”.

He added that these figures clearly point out the enormous popularity the Spanish brand’s new models enjoy amongst the public Spanish car buying public, as the Ibiza was the top selling model last April and has been the outright bestselling car in its segment since 2001.

He went on to say that the new Leon was unrivalled in sales of compact three and five-door models and the Toledo is the bestselling car in the compact saloon segment. Palomera also announced the arrival of the ecological version of the new

Leon: “We will shortly be launching the Ecomotive version of the third generation Leon, which features CO2 emissions of only 85g/km, a fantastic example of efficient technology.” And by the end of 2013, the Leon range will continue to expand with the arrival of the family sized ST version.

A member of the Volkswagen Group, the multinational has its headquarters  in Martorell (Barcelona), exports 83 per cent of its vehicles, and is present in 77 countries. In 2012 SEAT had a total turnover of more than €6 billion, with overall deliveries amounting to 321,000 units.
