GARDENING PROJECT: Councillor Martina (centre) with members of the project team.
TREES are to be planted around the perimeter of the Playas de Orihuela school in Los Dolses. The actual planting was rained off but Councillor for the Coast, Martina Scheurer, visited the school to learn more about the project.
Last year the school was given some money as part of the ‘Day of the Tree’ celebrations to create a small allotment area. This year, more trees will be added as part of an environmental educational programme.
Despite pupils studying in portacabins for a decade, the councillor insists this is a positive step for the pupils and has the backing of the dedicated teaching staff. “Planting is something we can do. We cannot build a new school but we can make this nicer while the children are here,” said Martina.
