Hotel Sol Los Fenicios reopens as season starts

SEASON STARTS: Deputy Mayor Juan Jose Ruiz Joya, centre, with director of the hotel, Carlos Moralo, left.

THE Hotel Sol Los Fenicios on the front line of the La Herredura beach has reopened for the new season. The hotel’s director, Carlos Moralo, hopes that the season will last at least until the middle of October. The hotel has only 43 rooms and was the first hotel to be given four star rating on the Costa Tropical.

The director explained that the hotel will return accepting young children this year following a ban on under-15s last season.

Moralo explained that the average clientile of the hotel were young couples, and middle-aged people around 40-years-old seeking a restful break.

He added that even though the hotel is on the frontline of the beach, it is very tranquil. Foreign tourists will outnumber national tourists this year, and they will be able to take advantage of the stay to visit Almuñecar, la Alpujarra and the Alhambra.

Carlos Moralo is optimistic about occupation levels despite difficulties faced by the sector. “We hope at least to be able to have the same numbers of visitors as last year with a similar balance of tourists, that is mainly Germans or British.

In the hotel reception there are photos on show that record the visit of the Spanish Royal family almost 20 years ago. The new head of the hotel, Oscar Moleon hopes that if all goes well the first influx of tourists will coincide with this week’s long weekend.

To coincide with the reopening of the hotel the deputy mayor of La Herreadura, Juan Jose Ruiz Joya, accompanied by the municipal co-coordinator of tourism, Rafael Caballero, visited the hotel.  They pointed out the importance of the reopening of the establishment as it will provide work for the area.
