Fun day of cricket at Cartama Oval

Cartama Oval

WITH no scheduled league cricket taking place last weekend it was the turn of the more mature cricketers to sample the great arena known as the Cartama Oval.

The team from Marbella arrived at the ground half an hour late due to ‘technical’ problems allowing the Nomads to take much needed pre match practice and for some the opportunity of an early morning breakfast beer!

The Nomads skippered by Peter Winter elected to bat and the opening partnership of Morly and his Dad, two ex-Durham veterans with a joint age of over 100 put on a very respectable opening stand.

It was agreed that once a batsmen had reached a total of 25 they would retire thus ensuring that everybody had the chance to display their batting skills.

The run rate was maintained throughout the Nomads innings with excellent contributions from Nick the Hood, Peter Tim and Ray despite very tight bowling and dynamic fielding from the Marbella ‘boys’.

A lunch time tactic talk by Marbella Coach Fernando appeared to inspire the team who set off steadily in reply to the Nomads total.

However it wasn’t to be their day despite the Teflon hands of Nick the Hood. Evergreen veteran Ray and a very tidy spell from Dan (who hadn’t played since he was at school 32 years ago) kept the scoring down.

There were many attempts by Marbella to dig in to save the day with a valiant attempt by the injured Martin supported by a runner.
