FLEEING POLICE: A street vendor was hit by a car after running from police.
A STREET vendor has died two days after being hit by a car as he fled police. The Senegalese man, Abdoulaye Mbengue, was working near the Playa de Palma when he spotted a Local Police patrol vehicle heading towards him. He decided to flee, but as he ran across the road he did not see a car that was travelling towards him.
The driver of the car could do nothing to avoid hitting the man, say police. Mbengue spent two days in a coma before dying. Up to 1,000 compatriots congregated at the Murimoula Mosque in Calle Cannes s’Arenal to donate money to repatriate the body to his home country at an estimated cost of €7,000.
