Nine arrested for illegal cock fights in Cadiz province

NINE people were arrested for organising illegal cock fights in Cadiz province. Guardia Civil searched premises in Sanlucar de Barrameda, Trebujena, La Barca de la Florida and El Cuervo, finding three dead cockerels and another 25 seriously injured.

The detainees had allegedly committed 210 offences, including charging entrance, making bets, drugs possession and use, weapons possession, illegal advertising and hindering an investigation.

They were also using veterinary equipment and medicines without authorisation, allowing access to non-members and using artificial spurs.

Cock fighting is banned by the Junta de Andalucia unless the fight is carried out to select which cockerels to breed from, in which case, they must be carried out on authorised premises, attended only by club members, and without the presence of minors. Charging entrance and drinking alcohol is banned.
