Bar owners in Mallorca declare war on sex muggers

TAKING ACTION: Bar owners are having to throw buckets of water to deter their clients.

A WAR has broken out between bars and prostitutes in Magaluf. Bar owners have taken to throwing buckets of water over the so called ‘black sex workers’ who often lure their tourist victims to secluded areas with sex offers only to mug them

Furious businessmen and women, angered at a perceived lack of action by police and Calvia town hall, held a meeting on Tuesday to come up with an action plan.

The owners feel that if the problem is not stopped now it will escalate and drive tourists away. With the BBC television programme last year The Truth About Magaluf highlighting the problem, the owners were saying that these woman are back earlier in the season than ever.

There are more of them and they are more determined than before to continue their practices, said the owners. And they claim the women are turning more violent towards not only the tourists but also the bar owners.

After being advised by police that they would not be prosecuted, the bar owners have set in motion a plan to inform each other when they see the women heading in the direction of each others bars.

The owner will then prepare clean water to throw over the prostitutes. Last Tuesday night saw this plan put into action and the retaliation from the prostitutes escalated.

When one of the bar owners threw the water, the prostitute picked up some glass bottles and threw them at the staff of the bar. In another incident further down the road, a member of staff of a bar was attacked. Recently there have been 25 specially trained police officers drafted in from Madrid to try and combat the problem.
