Spain beat Japan in the Fed Cup World Group playoff

Spanish female players triumph in Fed Cup

Spain won a reverse singles and a doubles match to beat Japan 4-0 in their Fed Cup World Group playoff on Sunday.

Carla Suarez beat Ayumi Morita 6-3, 7-5 to give Spain an insurmountable 3-0 lead before doubles pair Anabel Medina and Lourdes Dominguez won against Misaki Doi and Shuko Aoyama 6-4, 7-5.

Japan didn’t win a set in four matches on the outdoor clay court at Real Club de Polo tennis club in Barcelona.

Spain’s Silvia Soler-Espinosa had also beaten Morita in a singles match on Saturday.

‘I tried my best today,’ Morita said. ‘I think I had chances like yesterday, but I wasn’t able to take them. I would have preferred to play her on a hard court but she was very strong and played well. I learnt a lot of things from today’s match.’
