TRAFFIC BAN: Placa Mayor already pedestrianised.

ALL traffic, including delivery trucks, will be banned from the Plaça Major square in San Pablo from the start of May. The council has already closed three access points to the pedestrianised square.

The council claims that wheeled traffic is damaging the square, and many residents have complained. Mayor Biel Serra (PP) said: “People are complaining about the amount of traffic. During the mornings, the coming and going of delivery trucks is constant. Some of these vehicles travel at excessive speed through the square.”

There has been a mixed reaction to the decision, with many locals welcoming the plan whereas some businesses owners in the square are not happy. One of the business owners was quoted saying: “We are concerned that our delivery prices will increase because the delivery drivers will complain that they have to carry the deliveries further and leave their trucks a long way away.”

Another said: “They should perhaps restrict deliveries to certain times and have a special loading and unloading area.” The controls of the ban will be very strict and any violations of the ban will carry heavy penalties.
