CELEBRITY chef Ferran Adria raised $1.8 million (€1.4 million) for his El Bulli foundation.
Bids at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong rose to $23,000 (almost €18,000) for dinner for four with Adria. Wine, kitchen utensils and Adria’s signed chef’s jackets were also auctioned.
The El Bulli restaurant in Cadeques (Gerona) with three Michelin stars was consistently voted the best in the world.
Then Adria announced in 2011 that he intended turn it into a non-profit gastronomic think-tank and centre for visitors.
The centre will cost €6 million to build. Once it opens in 2015, annual costs will require a further €3 million.
