The General Traffic Department (DGT) have been carrying out a new campaign that will continue until Sunday April 14.
The controls will mainly be carried out on conventional roads. Figures show that during 2012 a total of 1,022 people were killed in accidents on conventional roads, which account for 78 per cent of all road traffic fatalities.
The DGT will also be running an information campaign using radio commercials, to raise awareness on such matters as stopping distances at various speeds.
Exceeding the speed limit carries fines ranging from €100 to €600 plus the loss of between 2 and 6 licence points.
