Police injured in drunken assault in Mallorca

ATTACK: Gang attacked police car.

TWO local police officers have been hospitalised after being attacked by a gang of drunken youths.

The attack happened at 2am in the Riuet area of Porto Cristo. The police officers were in a police vehicle on a routine patrol when they saw a group of youths near a recreation area. According to the police the youths had consumed a considerable amount of alcohol and drugs. As the car passed the group started shouting insults at the officers and banging on the car.

When the officers stopped and got out of the car to tell the group to stop a girl in the group lunged at the officers.

As the officers started to subdue the girl three men from the group attacked the officers by hitting and kicking them.

The police officers were struggling to keep control and were being overcome as two of the men were described as being physically very big and strong.

Two men who were passing by rushed to aid the officers and overcome the attackers. Other police units arrived on the scene and arrested three youths before taking their injured colleagues to Manacor hospital.
