PALMA: Will be busier than ever
TOURISM to Mallorca will be boosted by 52 new airline routes to Palma this summer.
Son Sant Joan airport will see an extra 14 routes to Germany, seven to the UK, and Italy, four to Russia, France and Norway, three to mainland Spain and two to Switzerland, Finland and Poland. Hungary and Ireland will have one extra.
They will run until October 29.
In total Palma’s airport will have 339 routes 337 of them to European Countries and two to the African cities of Nador and Algiers.
Germany has the highest number with a total of 78 followed by the UK with 70 routes.
Meanwhile it has been a busy time for Balearic airports over the Easter week.
According to figures released by AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles Navigacion Aerea)
in the week March 27 to April 2 there were a total 3,367 flights carrying 543,212 passengers to the islands.
The most flights and passengers were to and from Palma’s Son Sant Joan airport. It saw 436,761 passengers on 2,602 flights in that period.
The quietest day was Wednesday, March 27, with 316 flights and 51,251 passengers.
Busiest day was Easter Sunday with 76,070 passengers and 450 arrivals and departures.
In Ibiza there were a total of 479 flights and 69,961 passengers and Mahon saw 36,940 passengers on 286 flights.
