Duo accused of violent robbery in Torrevieja

SEIZED GOODS: Five months of investigations led to arrests.

TWO men have been arrested accused of the brutal beating and robbery of a couple in their own home.

Five months of investigations led to the arrest of the duo, in their thirties, from Estonia and Russia, in Finestrat on charges of robbery and intimidation, kidnapping, injury, illegal weapons possession and criminal group membership.

The robbery occurred at a house in Torrevieja in September 2012 in which the owners were held against their will.

The couple, who ran a catering establishment in Torrevieja, were accosted at the entrance of their home. They were then handcuffed and beaten repeatedly by the thieves, who were brandishing a gun, over a period of five hours, it is claimed by police.

The couple finally handed over the keys to the safe which contained high quality jewellery, watches and around €3,000 in cash.

The couple later received treatment for multiple injuries at Torrevieja Hospital.

Through the viewing of nearby security cameras, police were able to identify the vehicle used in the escape.

Police seized various mobile, computer and media equipment, apparently forged documents and two cars from the suspects.

The detainees are facing proceedings before Court No. 1 of Torrevieja.
