British Airways launches new direct flights to Tenerife

Tenerife Tourist Board has signed an agreement with British Airways to promote the new route between London’s Gatwick airport and the island.

The new route will commence on March 29 and is already sold out on economy and business class seats. British airways will be the only carrier offering business class in and out of Tenerife, five days a week, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Tourism Minister for Tenerife, Carlos Alonso, said ‘the fact that the inaugural flight is already sold out weeks before departure is a very positive sign of how well the new route has been received, and a good indicator of future sales.’ He also said that ‘This new service will satisfy the demands of the island’s tourism sector, particularly our 4 and 5 star hotels, as it will appeal to more high end and business British visitors.’

A joint marketing campaign, including outdoor and print advertising, social media and PR will promote the direct flight.

The inaugural flight will depart from London Gatwick at 7.10am on March 29, landing at Tenerife South Airport approximately four hours later. Nearly 1.6 million British tourists travelled to the island in 2012 making the UK the largest overseas outbound market.
