Area being searched
THE Guadia Civil are looking for a Cayman or crocodile measuring 2 metres in length in the municipality of Mijas.
The SEPRONA unit of the Guadia Civil began searching in artificial lakes around Majada Vieja after residents reported seeing a large animal which fits the description of either a Cayman or a crocodile in the area of Mijas that joins with Ojen, not far from the La Mairena urbanisation.
It is believed that many reptiles are brought into the country illegally and then later let loose by their owners when they grow too big to keep.
However, up to now, no evidence has been found of the presence of such an animal, or any remains of dead animals that may have been attacked for food.
