Motorbike nuisances

Pedestrian paths being used by motorcycles.

THE Pego-Oliva marsh’s pedestrian paths are being used by motocross and trial motorcycles.

Two in particular – the Pego to Figuereta path and Adsubia’s Les Asmaites path – are being turned into weekend motorcycle circuits, complained walkers from Pego’s Centro Excursionista.

They are being used by local motorcyclists and enthusiasts from all over Spain, they said.

Members of the Centro Excursionista have now written to the Guardia Civil as well as its Seprona nature protection service. They intend to lodge a formal complaint each time they encounter any type of vehicle on the paths, they warned.  Complaints will be accompanied by photographs and number plates if necessary.

The Centro Excursionista has worked extremely hard in recent years to reclaim the paths, the letter maintained.  The association is not prepared to allow vehicles to destroy them, the letter continued, quoting a regional government directive that limits traffic on rural paths.
