Local crop in hotels’ ‘Oscars’

Over 1,500 landlords abandoned short-term holiday lets last year in Andalusia.

TRAVEL website TripAdvisor.com awarded up to 16 hotels in Malaga province in their 2013 Traveller’s Choice Hotels awards, Spain.

The five-star Vincci Seleccion Aleysa hotel in Benalmadena was awarded as the ‘Top Luxury Hotel’ in Spain, also ranking first in the ‘Top 25 22nd in this category at a European level.

The annual Traveller’s Choice awards are given following the score and reviews of the webpage’s users to more than 650,000 hotels worldwide. Awards are given in several categories including ‘Top Hotels’, ‘Small Hotels’, ‘Bargain’, ‘B&Bs and Inns’, etc.

In Spain, up to 122 hotels have been awarded, out of which 16 are located in Malaga province. Andalucia, Catalonia, the Balearics and the Canaries were the regions with a larger number of awarded hotels.

“Guests’ compliments are the best acknowledgement our hotel could get,” Vincci Seleccion Aleysa hotel managing director Sara Gonzalez said. “The whole staff is very proud. It encourages us in keeping this same line of excellence,” director of the 35-room hotel said.
