SOME of the biggest cycling stars in road racing will be in Estepona for the Tour of Spain.
The 2013 national cycling competition (Vuelta de España) will include a stage ending in the town for the first time.
It is one of Europe’s biggest races, with the event starting on August 24 and finishing on September 15.
The eighth stage, on August 31 will start in Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz), going past Casares to end at the 970 metre high Peñas Blancas mountain pass in Estepona.
Then the next stage will begin in Antequera before heading towards Cordoba province and ending in Valdepeñas (Jaen).
Around 2,000 people, including cyclists and organisers, take part in the race every year.
Estepona Mayor Jose Maria Garcia said that hosting the stage will put “an unprecedented media focus on the town.”
