BEACHES all along the Malaga coast will be topped up with sand in a €3.4 million scheme.
The three year project, financed by the Ministry of the Environment, aims to improve the safety and quality of the shore.
First stage will be a written report assessing the state of beaches in popular tourist areas so the authority in charge, the Demarcacion de Costas de Malaga, can prioritise work.
Then sand will start to be spread during Easter, focussing on areas that could be dangerous for walkers.
With €960,000 earmarked for this year, more work is planned in April, May and June to make sure sandy beaches are wide enough and are of high quality in time for the summer tourist season.
An additional €1.2 and €1.4 million will be spent in 2014 and 2015.
