PEOPLE with diabetes are almost 50 per cent more likely to suffer a heart attack.
The National Diabetes Audit analysed the care of two million diabetics in the UK and found that type one and type two sufferers were at greater risk of having a heart attack.
According to the report 14,476 of those included in the study had a heart attack, 4,694 more than expected.
The report also found people with diabetes have a 40 per cent higher risk of death than the general population, with 65,700 diabetics dying in 2011.
