THE end of the holiday season heralds the beginning of another: the winter sales.
As January 7 dawned, shops and stores offered discounts of up to 70 per cent on winter clothes, shoes and children’s wear. Electrical and household goods as well as computer equipment and games were down by between 20 and 30 per cent.
Valencian Community residents are expected to spend an average of €87 in this year’s sales, second only to Madrileños who will each spend €95, says consumer group, FUCI.
The sales will last until March 6, with last-minute reductions of up to 90 per from department stores and chains.
Some sales began on January 2, following changes in laws formerly restricting them to specific periods.
This move by the national government is intended to boost the retail trade as cash-strapped families cut down on spending.
