A FOURTY four year old British man has died whilst on holiday in the Canary Islands. The man drowned in waters at the Plata Grande in the Puerto del Carmen area of Lanzarote at around 4pm on Sunday.
The man was holidaying with his wife and children at the destination which is popular with British holidaymakers.
He is thought to have entered the sea in bad conditions after disregarding the red flag warning when swimming is prohibited and entering the water is at the swimmers risk.
An on duty lifeguard blew his whistle but failed to catch the man’s attention and after paramedics struggled to revive him for forty minutes – he was announced dead at the scene.
