Special needs help pledge

COUNCILLORS for Education and Welfare, Rosa Martinez and Emilio Zaplana, have met parents of children with special educational needs on Orihuela Costa.

The meeting follows public anger at the lack of nursery care services available for children with special needs, as previously reported in The Euro Weekly News. Despite election manifestos promising action and the opening of a new nursery in September at Las Picinas, special needs help is still not being provided, claim council opponents.

Zaplana and Martinez pledged to inform the paediatrician who works at the health centre on the coast about steps for a child to be treated at the centre in Orihuela. They asked parents to get a report from their doctor stating their child needs specialised care so they can assess demand.
