Santas in cancer mercy dash!

ON YOUR MARKS : Santas took over Torrevieja promenade for the annual event

TORREVIEJA promenade was awash with Santas young and old as the annual AECC Santa Fun Run took place.

More than180 men, women and children, plus a few dogs, took part to help raise funds for the AECC cancer charity.

President of the AECC Torrevieja Branch and founder of  The Pink Ladies fundraisers, Maria Wilson, said she was delighted with the turnout and thanked a host of people for making the event possible including Fit-4-All for their Zumba workout and Mattgrafix.com for the printing.

She added: “Everything we raise goes to the charity and so without these people we could not do it.”

Food items were also accepted and placed in a sleigh donated by Lo Rufete and pulled by members of the Torrevieja Tigers rugby team. “Last year we collected toys for the children’s home and this year the food will be donated to Reach Out Torrevieja,” explained Maria.

For many it was a chance to dress up and take part in a fun event, for others it was all about the cause. “I have lost someone to cancer,” said Ruth Roper from Cabo Roig, “and it gives you a chance to think about that. It is important for people to come together and work together to fight this disease.”

Carole Weaver took part with her rescue dog Lucy. She said: “It is a great cause.”

Members of the Campoverde Theatre Group took time out from rehearsals for their new show to get in the festive spirit and support the charity.

The full €5 registration entry fee for each participant went to the AECC.
