SIERRA NEVADA opened two days ahead of schedule for its 2012/2013 season. In the presence of the top two Spanish snow athletes; snowboarder Regino Hernandez and ski racer Maria Jose Rienda at the Andalucían Institute of Sport, The Minister of Culture and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía revealed the ski resort was open on Thursday November 29. These two days were offered to the public at a discounted rate of €30 for a ski pass.
Also, from March 18 to 26, Sierra Nevada will host the Snowboard World Cup and Freestyle, for which 25 channels from around the world have bought the television rights to. There have been many improvements to the slopes and lifts in anticipation for the event.
