Out with interns

A PLAN to employ interns at Benidorm council is meeting opposition. 

They will earn €400 a month for town hall maintenance work in a scheme announced as “eminently practical” work experience. The €70,600 cost of employing 36 people on four-month contracts breaches budget restrictions, declared PP councillor David Devesa. The council was introducing the scheme by the back door, he claimed. An attempt at a similar scheme last year failed, he said, as it had neither PP nor CDL backing.
