Nerja council wants wedding present off non-resident couples

COUPLES dreaming of a romantic civil ceremony in Nerja will have to stump a €150 charge to the council.

The levy, which applies to non-residents only, is one of a string charges brought in by the council as it bids to balance the books. If one of the members of the couple has been registered in the Nerja padrón for at least four years, there will be no charge. Antonio Villasclaras, the councillor in charge of revenue, said the town hall had “no choice” but to bring in the charges.
