Giant Crystals cave goes digital

Javier Trueba, CSIC

MAGICAL: The largest piece of glass in the geode is 2.5 meters long.

THE crystal geode in Pulpi, discovered in 1999, was scanned and a digital 3D reproduction has been produced. This means scientists will now be able to study its morphology from their computers, without having to actually be inside the cave. This is the largest gypsum crystal geode in Europe, after the Debar mine in Macedonia. The site is restricted to scientific research visits.
