Málaga CF coach, Manuel Pellegrini, held a press conference at La Rosaleda, following the historic victory against AC Milan.

Statements by Pellegrini

“I can only say positive things about our performance tonight.  Despite the important of this match with regards to qualifying for the next round, Milan had eight defenders on the pitch, which goes to show our past performances in the Champions League haven’t gone unnoticed.  We were determined to score during the entire 90 minutes, and although we missed the penalty, I don’t think the end result reflected the match to be honest.”

“Defeating Milan is obviously of great importance, as they’re one of the biggest teams in Europe.  Our mentality is not to focus on defeating the biggest rival, only to then lose to a team at a lower level.  I completely stand by the way in which we won.”

“We all felt beforehand that this match would be so significant in the Club’s history.  We played well and maintained control and possession of the ball.  We don’t know when we’ll officially qualify, as there are still nine points to play for.  We could seal our fate with a win in Milan.”

“It’s the mentality of a big team to have that determination to win, with the players sometimes having an easy time on the pitch, and other times it can be tough.”
