DEADLY BAY: The Almuñecar Bay, now a tourism hot spot, was eventually a fatal coast.

TOMORROW (Friday) Almuñecar marks the 450th anniversary of the Spanish Naval Army shipwreck. A conference about this event and XVI century military ships will be held at La Herradura’s social centre, today (Thursday) at 8.30pm.
The story says that, on October 19, back in 1562 and during the kingdom of Felipe II, 28 galleys of the “Armada Española” set sail along the Costa del Sol, departing from Malaga to face the Turkish troops in the Mediterranean Sea. While crossing La Herradura, a strong storm hit the ships fiercely, sinking 25 of them and taking the lives of 5,000 sailors.
