Toyota Motor Europe posts 13% sales increase in Q3

Lexus Q3 sales increased by 13% as Lexus GS and RX receives strong market response

Brussels, Belgium –  Toyota Motor Europe (TME) today announced a continued 13% sales increase in the third quarter with sales of 206,643 vehicles versus the same period last year, including 194,848 Toyota and 11,795 Lexus vehicles in Europe. The strong Q3 sales performance for TME means year-to-date sales result is up 6% compared to the same period in 2011. During the first nine months of 2012, TME achieved total sales of 642,543 vehicles, including 607,294 Toyota and 35,249 Lexus vehicles.

Daniele Schillaci, Senior Vice-President for TME Sales and Marketing, commented: “Our aggressive product launch strategy since last year is already showing solid results. Among our core models, the Toyota Yaris and Yaris Hybrid have been particularly well received by our customers. In the coming months, we do not expect to see too many big improvements in the European automotive market. However, we can still expect some increases in our Central and Eastern European markets before the end of this year.”

Hybrid Highlights

With more Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles than ever on sale in Europe, overall third quarter sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles in Europe saw a 75% increase to 33,370 units. Hybrid vehicles represent 16% of total TME sales in Q3. Cumulative sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles in Europe since 2000 now stand at over 470,000 units.

Toyota Highlights

Toyota’s built-in Europe core models saw an overall sales increase in Q3, driven by the strong sales of the Toyota Yaris and Yaris Hybrid. The Yaris model range grew 50% with sales of 44,095 vehicles in Q3, while growing 31% in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2011.

The newly introduced Toyota Prius Family is already proving its popularity with sales reaching 11,450 units in Q3, including 4,689 Prius, 4,941 Prius+ and 1,820 Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

Toyota’s much-acclaimed GT86 sports coupe is also showing good sales soon after its full European launch with year-to-date sales reaching 3,414 units.

The Toyota Camry continued the model’s strong performance with sales of 10,464 units in Q3, up 82%.

Lexus Highlights

Sales of Lexus vehicles in Europe during Q3 reached 11,795 units, a 13% increase over last year. During the first nine months of 2012, European sales of Lexus vehicles grew by 9% over 2011.

The Lexus GS range continues a strong sales trend from the previous quarter with sales reaching 1,612 units in Q3. Year-to-date sales of the Lexus GS reached 3,357 units, over four times the model’s total sales in 2011. Sales of the Lexus RX also continue to grow with sales reaching 4,186 units in Q3, up 50%, with year-to-date sales reaching 11,191 units.
