THE Torrecardenas Hospital Community Mental Health Unit has created social insertion programs for patients and their families in Roquetas de Mar. The programs were created as a result of the need health services had to look after the needs of patients with serious mental disorders as well as their children, who are considered to be at risk for psychological and social problems. The idea was to prevent the needs of children under the age of 16 from being unattended due to their parent’s mental illness, with routine follow-ups to insure their wellbeing. The social insertion programs for patients include gardening, painting, basketball and specific emotional to help patients acquire skills that will help them adapt to society.
