Scotsman elected president of Javea PSOE

George Thomas and Jose Chulvi

Javea Mayor, Jose Chulvi, has announced the appointment of Scotsman George Thomas as the new President of the Javea PSOE. The appointment is unique as it is the first time the party have elected a non-Spanish president, cementing the government policy of greater integration between local and foreign resident communities. George, who has been a party member for more than 13 years, replaces the previous much loved President, Mariano Iglesias, who died in March 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Javea’s international community consists of more than 80 different nationalities, all of whom have access to various council departments, including a one-stop information centre with bi-lingual staff. In his opening address, Mayor Chulvi told his audience that he appreciated the difficulties which can be involved because of many people’s limited ability to learn new languages, especially if they are retired and no longer wish to study. George Thomas traveled extensively throughout the countries of the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, war-torn Beirut and pre-revolutionary Iran before moving to Spain. He is the author of the best seller all action thriller, ‘Nemesis in Spain,’ with the sequel due to be published shortly.
