A PROJECT plan to boost plastic waste recycling in El Ejido is currently being considered by the Junta de Andalucia. The initiative, which has been proposed by the company Demplastic Reciclados SL, also foresees creating up to 29 direct work positions. The head of the Environmental department in the Junta, Sonia Rodriguez, is studying the recycling company’s proposal to convert 24,000 tons of agricultural plastic waste into plastic ‘chips,’ which are used for plastic product production, including tubes, pots, rubbish bags, among others. Demplastic Reciclados SL will invest €3 million into modernising their infrastructures, for investigation regarding plastic waste recycling, improving energetic efficiency, and branching out commercially. Rodriguez has already pledged “institutional cooperation to develop this project, which will help the farming sector administrate waste more effectively as well as promote the environmental quality of El Ejido and the western region.”
