Hospital staff set to strike

By Nicole Hallett
SOME hospital and medical staff are planning a three-hour strike tomorrow (Friday). This stoppage comes just days ahead of a possible ‘indefinite strike’ next Monday. It will be backed by staff at the Costa del Sol Hospital between Malaga and Marbella.

Tomorrow’s strike is scheduled from noon until 3pm, and may be similar to one last Friday which was supported by 31.5 per cent of staff from the Costa del Sol Hospital plus the CARE in Mijas and HAR in Benalmadena Health Centres, a Provincial Health Department spokes-person told EWN.

But the emergency department, recovery and hospitalisation, dialysis and cancer departments will not be affected by any strike action. Other services, according to the spokesperson, will be operating at the same level as they would  be during a public holiday.

The strike action has been called in protest at health service austerity measures announced by the central government.
