A new marina for Axarquia

THE Junta has finished the new preliminary project for the second marina in the Axarquia area.

The marina will be built on the Torrox beach Calaceite, although the project will have to overcome environmental and administrative obstacles due to the impact experts estimate the construction will have on the area.

According to the socialist Mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz, the new marina will boost the area’s economy by creating new jobs and attracting more tourists. He also pointed out that the marina will also cover the lack of space there is on the Costa del Sol to anchor sports boats and other recreational vessels.

The new project draft has made plans for 486 moorings, instead of the 500 that had been initially planned. The placement has also changed with the new project draft, given environmental issues regarding a neighbouring cove. Despite these setbacks, the Junta de Andalucia’s Public Works department intends to start a bidding process for the construction, which will cost approximately €30 million, by next year. Both Torrox and Nerja governments are anxious to speed up the process and get the construction started as soon as possible.
