DENIA town centre will soon be a safe haven for night revellers and a nightmare for motorists.
The local council recently announced that in addition to the main central shopping street, Marques de Campo being closed to traffic daily from 3pm, a section of La Mar between Carlos felt and Diana will also be closed from Friday evenings to Sunday.
Denia Councillor Vincent Michelet explained that traffic controls will be in place throughout the summer to encourage visitors to the town centre and boost summer trade.
He also said that plans will shortly be announced detailing promotions and celebrations in the historic downtown areas including, ‘White Nights’ during which establishments will be offering special discounts and activities between the hours of 9pm and midnight.
The ban on weekend night parking will also appease residents living within the areas who in the past have complained about car radios blaring out until the early hours and bottles lodged next to parked cars.
